Double Glory For Artnagullion Flock

The Charollais Sheep Premier Sale in Dungannon once again highlighted the quality of the Breed in Northern Ireland with buyers present from throughout the UK and Ireland. William McAllister had a Red Letter Day winning both the Male and Female Championship with his brother and sister lambs sired by Ballyhibbon Kickstart and out of the Artnagullion  2011 Prize Winning Show Hogget.  Winning the January born Ram Class was Artnagullion Noble,with his triplet brother taking the blue rosette,this well muscled February born Ram with strength and character went on to win Supreme Champion. The Ringsend Flock of James and Elizabeth Gould having to go to 1500gns to secure this lot.
The Female Champion ,Artnagullion Neala from the same Flock attracted a flurry of bids, this big powerful ewe lamb  selling to Mark Breen for 1600gns.
Judge Alan Kennedy from Parkgate Dumfries, chose his first placed Shearling Ram from the Bunderg Flock of Robert and Gary Scott, this big well fleshed Ram,sired by Carnew Legacy later selling for 950gns. The second prize winner in this class shown by Jonathan Aiken attracted some interest with Noel and Freda Donnelly having to spend 1050gns to purchase him for their Shewis Flock. Robert and Gary Scott and David Mawhinney  the third and fourth placed prize winners in this class both attracted bids of 720gns,
Top pen averages in the Senior and Shearlings went to the Bunderg Flock of Robert and Gary Scott averaging 835gns,Drew and Stephen Cowan averaging 705gns for six sold. Ian Goudy averaging 627gns for four sold.
Taking the red rosette in the early December born Ram Class was a well muscled stylish ram from the Tullyear pen of Drew and Stephen Cowan, this one selling at 550gns to McConnell Brothers for their Hollylodge Flock. McConnell Brothers took the blue rosette in this class, their upstanding ram  sired by Blakeney King Louis selling for 1100gns
Standing first and second in the late December Class were two eye-catching  Castellau Lord Mayor sons shown by Regional Chairman Jonathan Aiken. The Judge choosing the red rosette winner in this class as his Reserve Champion, this lot later selling in the ring for 1200gns.
Top pen averages in the Ram Lambs went to William McAllister averaging 1023gns, Jonathan Aiken average 780gns, Drew and Stephen Cowan 755gns.
Top Price of the day went to the Tullyear Flock of Drew and Stephen Cowan achieving 1700gns for their Senior Stock ram Bawnard Keystone selling to Southern Breeder Andrew Gilmour. The Senior Ram from the  Beechview Flock of George Booth also generated some interest, Tullyear Krackerjack selling for 1200gns  to another Southern Breeder Aidan Murphy.   A Riverdale Ram from the pen of The McMordie Family caught the eye of a County Monaghan Buyer,this Logie Durno Laird son selling for 920gns.
The Group of Three sponsored by Thompsons’s Animal Feeds was awarded to the Tullyear pen of Drew and Stephen Cowan, The three ram lambs were sired by Lisfuncheon Limited Edition,Champion at Irish Premier 2011. One of this prize winning group later selling for 1200gns to Aidan Branagan, Kilcoo.
The Females attracted a lot of attention on the day with top pen average going to William McAllister averaging 1100gns for two sold. The Tullyear Flock of Drew and Stephen Cowan sold to a top of 820gns for a Bawnard Keystone daughter and averaging 740gns for Five sold.

Carnew Ram Takes Top Spot at Dungannon

 

The Carnew Flock of Jonathan Aiken had another successful  day at the Charollais ram sale in Dungannon market. Judge Matt Teggart choosing a ram from this Flock as his Champion in the Pre Sale Show, this stylish January born ram sired by Castellau Lord Mayor later purchased by the Judge and making the joint top price of 600gns. In Reserve spot was a Shearling Ram shown by David and Liz Mawhinney, this son of Tawelfa Knockout also selling for 600gns. Taking first place in the December Ram Class was another Lord Mayor son from the pen of Jonathan Aiken this lot selling for 520gns. Standing second to the Champion in the January Class was a weight recorded Ram form Norman MCMordie,sired by Logie Durno Laird this lot sold for 500gns. William McAllister’s Artnagullion Pen also caught the eye of the judge awarding them second in the January Class and  a third in the December class both rams were sired by Kings Land Mr Muscle and sold for 460gns and 420gns.  The second top price of the day went to William Sherrard, this Wolston Magnum son with a breed index of 306 selling for 580gns.Averages:  Shearling Rams  417gns, Ram Lambs 351gns.
The next sale of Charollais Rams is scheduled for Ballymena on Monday 23rd September at 7.00pm.  110 Rams are catalogued for sale thirty, Shearling rams and Eighty Ram Lambs. Tullyear Flock Champion at Rathfriland


The Tullyear Flock of Drew and Stephen Cowan took the Champion spot at the Charollais Ram Show and Sale in Rathfriland. Their January born Ram sired by Lisfuncheon Limited Edition the choice of Judge Gilbert Anderson,this strong well muscled  Ram later making the top Ram Lamb price of 480gns. Reserve Champion was a Shearling Ram from the Carnew Flock of Jonathan Aiken, this lot later selling for 580gns. Top price of the night went to David Mawhinney his Shearling Ram attracting a bid of 700gns, another lot from this pen selling for 600gns. Overall averages  Shearling Rams 425gns, Ram Lambs 291gns.

Rockvilla Ram McLarnon Champion


Winning the Charollais Sheep Champion and taking the top price of the night at the Charollais Sheep Show and Sale in Ballymena was the Rockvilla Flock of David and Liz Mawhinney.  Judge Ian Rea placing the Mawhinney Shearling Ram first in his class and overall Champion, this big Honddu Investiagator Ram later selling for 580gns. First in the December born ram Class came from the pen of Tommy and Derek Fenton from Rasharkin, this well muscled ram sired by Foulrice Harry selling for 400gns. A Ram from the pen of Jonathan Aiken caught the Judge’s eye in the January Class, this lot sired by Castellau Lord Mayor and selling for 370gns. Judge Ian Rea commented later on the very high standard of the sheep presented.
